Through the year in religion class we ha have covered a lot of topics. At the start of the year our class watched a film called “Tuesdays with Morri”. Tuesdays with Morrie, written by Mitch Albom is a story of the love between a man and his college professor, Morrie Schwartz. This true story captures the compassion and wisdom of a man who only knew good in his heart. A man who lived his life to the fullest up until the very last breath of his happily fulfilled life. It is a story of a special bond of friendship that was lost for many years, but never forgotten and simply picked up again at a crucial time of both Morrie’s and Mitch’s lives. We find out that Morrie [Mitches old professor] has a disease called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that causes muscle weakness, paralysis, ultimately and respiratory failure. ALS attacks certain cells in the brain and the spinal cord needed to keep our muscles moving. This was an interesting film as not only do we learn of ALS but also the way of life and the friendship between Mitch and Morri.
From “Tuesdays with Morrie”. We also looked at the Lindy and the Tango and the differences they have, Different Religions. For myself i researched Buddhism and found it very interesting, Also we had to research famous teachers, I picked Aristotle (384–322 B.C.E.). I picked Aristotle as he numbers among the greatest philosophers of all time.
Our next topic was “black fish” a documentary on cruelty of animals. This documentary focused mainly on Seaworld and the treatment of Tilikum a killer whale who killed two people. We then researched cloning in animals and the negatives about it.
I enjoyed all topics our class covered in Religion but overall my favorite topic was “Blackfish” as he got to see a better insight into animal cruelty.
