Maths bonus points
25 bonus points will be awarded for Higher Level Mathematics for H6 grades and above. For example, if an applicant receives a H6 grade an additional 25 points will be added to the 46 points already awarded for a H6 grade.
This new system will also raise the points total of weaker students. A student getting two grades of 55 per cent, two of 45 per cent and two of 35 per cent will get 278 points under the new scale compared to 220 points currently. A student getting two grades of 95 per cent, two of 85 per cent and two of 75 per cent at higher level will get 530 points under the new scale, 10 points less than on the current scale.
At both higher and ordinary level there will be eight new grades, with seven 10 per cent bands from 100 downwards to 30, and one band from 30 downwards. For example, under the old system a student who got a grade of 71 per cent in English and 79 per cent in History would have secured a B3 and a B2 respectively. Under the new system, a student would receive a H3 for both subjects.
